SAN FRANCISCO, California — September 3, 2026 — SourceU today launched an online role-definition service that converts employer requirements into task-based job descriptions, role-specific work samples, structured interview guides and documented decision boundaries.
A Facilitated Service Available Before Candidate Sourcing
Beginning today, employers can request the service through SourceU’s website. The offering is delivered through a facilitated online engagement and may be completed before an employer sources candidates directly or works with a staffing agency.
The service is available for remote administrative and technical roles. Each project is quoted according to the number and complexity of roles, with scope, delivery timing and pricing confirmed before work begins. SourceU provides the completed hiring package as editable documents rather than as standalone software or a public template library.
“Many role discussions begin with a title and a list of preferred traits, but hiring teams ultimately need to agree on the work, deadlines and authority attached to the position,” said SourceU’s role-definition lead. “Documenting those points before candidate sourcing gives managers a common reference for reviewing work samples, conducting interviews and making final decisions.”
One Role Map Across the Hiring Package
The new service separates role definition from SourceU’s broader recruiting support. Its distinguishing element is a guided role-mapping process that links each stated requirement to observable work and then carries that information across the posting, work sample, interview guide and applicant-review checklist.
During intake, SourceU documents:
- Recurring tasks and expected outputs
- Workload, deadlines and reporting cadence
- Software categories and communication channels
- Approval, notification and escalation rules
- Decisions the worker may make independently
- Role-specific knowledge required before starting
- Responsibilities that remain with the manager
SourceU then prepares:
- A task-based job description
- A schedule of recurring responsibilities and deliverables
- A work-sample exercise based on representative duties
- Interview questions linked to documented requirements
- Approval, escalation and decision boundaries
- A consistent applicant-review checklist
Unlike a general job-description template, each package uses the employer’s own workflow, volume, timing and management structure. The work sample and interview questions are mapped to the same role requirements rather than developed as separate, generic documents.
From Broad Traits to Observable Work
For example, a project-coordination brief could ask a candidate to process 15–20 meeting recordings each week, identify action items, update a project board, assign due dates and prepare a five-point management summary within four hours of each meeting. The exercise records the expected volume, sequence and deadline without relying on broad personality labels.
For positions involving independent judgment, the package identifies actions the worker may take directly, actions that require manager notification and actions that require prior approval. The same boundaries appear in the job description, work sample and interview materials.
The approach is consistent with guidance from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which describes work samples as assessments that ask applicants to perform tasks reflecting duties associated with a position. That guidance does not evaluate SourceU’s service, and SourceU is not citing it as evidence of a guaranteed hiring outcome.
Administrative and Technical Role Coverage
Administrative engagements may document scheduling routines, handled query types, communication channels, reporting expectations and escalation paths. Technical engagements may address the technology stack, development environment, code-review process, deployment duties and expected level of independence.
Examples include an employer preparing to hire remote virtual assistant support, define a virtual assistant for social media management position, structure a customer service virtual assistant role or hire offshore software developers. These examples describe potential service scope and do not represent separate packaged products.
SourceU has not announced performance benchmarks, pilot metrics or guaranteed improvements in hiring outcomes. Candidate availability, compensation, employer responsiveness, interview practices and final selection decisions remain outside the role-definition engagement. Candidate sourcing and broader recruiting support are included only when covered by a separate project scope.
