Excellent Dog is a canine knowledge repository that includes several guides on topics ranging from dog behavior and grooming to new techniques for handling disabled dogs. The newly launched report underlines the importance of the early detection of arthritis, symptom recognition, probable causes, and a review of new treatments for joint inflammation issues.
More details can be found at https://excellentdog.info
In the report, Excellent Dog addresses canine owners’ concerns by educating them on the prevention of this potentially crippling condition and methods to arrest or slow its advance.
Arthritis is believed to affect approximately 1 in 5 pet dogs over one year of age. It is especially prevalent in senior dogs, but can occur in dogs of almost any age, impacting any joint in the body, but particularly the hips, knees, elbows, shoulders, neck, and back. Larger breeds, such as Labradors, German Shepherds, and Golden Retrievers are prone to the disease, as are dogs that are overweight.
The report indicates what the dog owner should be alert to respond to symptoms of the disease. There are 3 principal forms of the condition: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis – which comes via the immune system, and septic arthritis, where a single joint can be infected by bacteria or fungi.
Excellent Dog points out that while septic and especially rheumatoid arthritis can be both frightening and debilitating, these forms of the disease can be treated successfully with corticosteroids and antibiotics.
The report advises dog owners to contact their local veterinarian if any of the following red flags appear: if the dog struggles to get up from a resting position; expresses an unwillingness to exercise or unnatural hesitation before jumping; suffers from tiredness and lack of appetite, or develops any unexplained lameness. A veterinarian will most likely need to conduct a diagnostic imaging exam and order blood tests, in order to rule out other possible causes and to determine the type of arthritis that requires treatment.
The Excellent Dog arthritis report states that human caregivers can assist their pets by including regular low-impact exercises, feeding the pet a healthy diet to prevent or reduce obesity, and providing special dietary supplements such as glucosamine and chondroitin.
“Advances in medical treatments for dogs have been impressive,” said a spokesperson at Excellent Dog. “We want to shine a spotlight on all aspects of dog health, just as we chronicle the remarkable stories of dog heroism and steadfast companionship.”
